2024 Election Thoughts
As we near election day, there are a few things that have been on my mind. Anger, fear, and resentment are crowded around this election. We are not called to behave like this. Neighbor is turning against neighbor. People are flipping tables for the wrong reasons. I wrote some verses down that I really hope helps you during this election season.
14 They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.” Revelation 17:14.
Regardless of who sits in office, Jesus sits on the throne forever.
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:25-27.
Worrying will not lead you anywhere. Have faith so that regardless of who wins this election, God has you. God sees you and others also see your faith during this time.
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31.
Stop treating the people who are voting different than you with anger and as though they are inferior to you. Love your neighbor. The person living beside you or down the street = your neighbor. Your coworker = your neighbor. The person walking down the sidewalk = your neighbor. Random stranger on the internet who has a different opinion than you = your neighbor. It does not say love them when you feel like it or when you are both completely aligned in voting preferences.
Election day is one day and the president only sits in office for four years. Jesus is eternal. Share the love of Jesus with others rather than anger over election disagreements.
As always, God loves you, I love you, and I will be praying for you this week! Have a blessed week!
