Find Your Peace
With how fast-paced the world is, with its many anxiety-inducing scenarios, life can quickly go from peaceful to overwhelming. As Christ-followers, how do we not go the way of the world and headfirst into fear?
I have a sure method of how to find peace.
Are you ready for it?
Fix your eyes on Jesus.
“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
Hebrews 12:2-3
There are also other things to do to prepare you for the moments when you feel overwhelmed. Read God’s word every day. Learn His promises and truths, they are still the same because He does not change.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Ephesians 6:13-17
Knowing God should be the most important part of your life. You will be able to fight off the anxiety of this world when you are more prepared and know of His promises. His words should be written on your heart. When you go through anxiety and your mind starts racing, it may be hard to remember the verses if you are just pulling from something you learned today. If God’s word is on your heart, then you will not fail to be able to fight off the anxiety.
18 “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. “
Deuteronomy 11:18
Until God’s word is written on your heart, here is a helpful tip that I do when I get anxious and need to refocus my eyes on Jesus:
Listen for birds.
It sounds too simple, right? It does not have to be birds specifically; you could look at flowers or trees. The Bible section that I was first able to remember was Matthew 6:26-34. To me, this is basically saying, “Why worry? God is taking care of the birds. Of course He will take care of you too.”
26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:26-34
This moment will pass, and the anxiety will be gone. Pray, seek Him, and look for birds.
Love you!
