Revelation God

How we see God is more important than how we see ourselves. We can think of ourselves as strong, weak, smart, or insignificant at different points in our lives but God is the same through each of those feelings.

God is capable of all good things and has many wonderful aspects. Unfortunately, while I was growing up, I only knew of one aspect. Revelation God. If you have never heard of this phrase, it is basically summing God up to the time that Jesus is coming back. That sounds amazing, right? It was terrifying. There was not one good thing that I could name about God. I had to be prepared for the end of the world because at every moment, it was imminent. My friends and family would have to be taken away from me and I could not bargain for their lives by taking the “mark of the beast”.

I am not saying that times will not be difficult when the world is ending. But to think of God as someone who would hurt others to test their faith is not what it is about. God is good. I have had to relearn everything I ever knew, and it is not easy. So, if you need to go slow with the process of unlearning and relearning, then go slow. Please do not quit.

Let us start at the beginning.

  1. Sit with God. Pray for Him to show you who He is. He already knows what you need, and He is just waiting on you to ask for it.
  2. Read His word. The Bible is a clear way to see who He is and how much He loves us.
  3. Show love to others. This one may seem odd. How would we see God through us showing love to others? We love because He first loved us. When we get outside of our own mind and focus on others, we learn more about how God uses us to love the people He also loves.

Try those 3 things. Make them a habit. Here is a portion of 1 John 4, but I urge you to read the rest of the chapter.

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

1 John 4:9-12.
