No Haunts in This Home

As Halloween nears, my husband and I are breaking customs. We will not be celebrating Halloween. No candy or spooky vibes will be found in our home. The decision to not celebrate has been founded on a few reasons.

I Will Not Tolerate What Jesus Has Saved Me From

One of my many sins that I committed before I had a relationship with Jesus is that I was more obsessed with worldly things and any mythical/magical thing. I choose now to not entertain any of it because I know my personality. If I allow one thing then I chance allowing anything in to hyper-fixate on. None of it is worth the risk.
“17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

I Have Always Been Afraid of the Dark

Haunted houses have never held any interest to me. I do not like being scared, which is ironic to have celebrated the scary holiday. When I was about 9 years old, my dad bought a haunted house ticket for me. Once I was inside the beginning area I immediately turned around and left. No idea what I thought a haunted house would be like, but I should have realized it would be dark and scary. Forever grateful that Jesus is the light.
“12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

The Main Reason I Do Not Celebrate Halloween Is:

God convicted me not to. If it does not honor God, there is no point in me doing the activity. God has saved me too many times to count for me to not lay down my wants and followings of this world and follow Him instead. He said do not do it, I will not do it. He may not convict others to do the same and that is alright. I am not saying that anyone else is bad because they still celebrate Halloween. It would be harder to quit a holiday if you have children or prior engagements. My husband does not care for Halloween so it is not a big deal in our house.

The only spirit I want in our home is the Holy Spirit.

As always, God loves you, I love you, and I will be praying for you. Have a blessed week!

Also, if you are curious what verse Halloween reminds me of, it is Deuteronomy 18:9-13.
